Detection of the virus that causes monkeypox

Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by a virus belonging to the same family as the traditional smallpox virus, which was eradicated in 1979.

However, in recent months, monkeypox has spread to regions where it has never before been reported. Symptoms appear within 6 to 16 days following infection, although they may appear between 5 and 21 days. Early detection is an essential tool to curb its spread.

To diagnose the presence of monkeypox virus, we take a small swab sample directly from a pustule and analyze it using high sensitivity and specificity real-time PCR techniques.
