Madrid, December 21, 2022. ARQUIMEA acquires 100% of Ibérica del Espacio S.A. (IberEspacio), a company specialized in thermal control products and engineering solutions for space, from Técnicas Reunidas for €19 million.
In the words of Miguel Paradinas, General Manager of Técnicas Reunidas and Chairman of IberEspacio, “We believe that Técnicas Reunidas has completed its journey in IberEspacio by taking it to its current size and we are confident that, with the entry of ARQUIMEA, IberEspacio will have new opportunities for growth. On the other hand, at Técnicas Reunidas we are focusing on our core activities to continue to consolidate our position as leaders in engineering and construction in the energy sector and to address the current challenge of contributing to the global energy transition and decarbonization”.
For his part, Diego Fernández Infante, President of ARQUIMEA, stated that “The acquisition of IberEspacio allows ARQUIMEA to complete our capabilities and product range and positions us among the leading companies in the global space sector, capable of servicing the growing market demand driven by the New Space, the new space agencies and the increase in the number of scientific and commercial missions”.
This acquisition reinforces ARQUIMEA’s position as a leading supplier of products and technologies across the entire space value chain, and rounds out its development and production capabilities to meet the growing global demand for satellites, systems and space components.
IberEspacio, with a long tradition in the space sector, specializes in the design and production of thermal control hardware and engineering solutions for satellites and spacecraft. With over 100 employees and a satellite systems manufacturing and integration facility of approximately 10,000 m2 located in Torrejón de Ardoz, the company has participated in 53 space missions, having launched more than 991 units and 1,357 currently in progress.
The current activities of both companies are not only compatible; there are also clear synergies that will enable both companies to benefit from the operation.
For example, ARQUIMEA is the main shareholder and industrial partner responsible for the manufacture of satellites for BeetleSat, a new telecommunications constellation, for which it plans to manufacture more than 200 satellites in the coming years. The manufacturing of these satellites will be executed at IberEspacio’s recently acquired facilities.
At a sectoral level, this operation strengthens and enhances Spain’s national capabilities in a sector with high technological and strategic value, such as space, where high growth is expected in the coming years.
